Colony formation in vitro by leukaemic cells in acute myelogenous leukaemia with phytohaemagglutinin as stimulating factor

Abstract

HUMAN bone marrow contains cells which form leukocyte colonies of 50 or more cells. Each such colony arises from a single cell1, belonging predominantly to the myeloid series2,3, which is subject to regulation in vitro by humoral colony-stimulating factor generated by peripheral leukocytes4,5.
