Abstract

BOTH noradrenaline (NA) and dopamine are able to stimulate the synthesis of cyclic AMP in brain tissues in vitro1,2. Furthermore, several iontophoretic studies have indicated that the hyperpolarisation elicited by catecholamines in cerebellum3, hippocampus4, striatum5 and cortex6 is mediated by cyclic AMP, suggesting that this nucleotide may act as a second messenger for some actions of the catecholamines at central synapses.
