Abstract

THE requirement for a cell-to-cell interaction in the induction of the immune response against sheep red blood cells (SRBC) in mice has been well established in vivo1–3 and also recently demonstrated in vitro4–8. Studies on thymectomized, lethally irradiated and bone marrow and/or thymus reconstituted animals implicate marrow-derived and thymus-derived cells as the cooperating partners1–3. Mosier et al.1 and Munro and Hunter8 have recently reported that an in vitro response against SRBC of mouse spleen cells from thymus-deprived mice can be reconstituted by the addition of thymus-derived cells contained in spleen cell suspensions from normal animals.
