Abstract

FOR the immune response to take place different types of cell must interact1–3. Two populations of mouse spleen cells, both of which are required for the in vitro response to sheep erythrocytes, can be separated on the basis of their adherence to plastic4. This cell separation procedure has enabled us to localize the cellular deficit in thymectomized mice to the non-adherent population and provides additional evidence that three cell types are required for the primary immune response in vitro.
