Abstract

THE concentration of ascorbic acid is not uniform in the leaves of a plant and this holds true for the con centration within each leaf as well as from leaf to leaf. (The concentration is taken as per cent fresh weight orT better, per cent plant water which, owing to the various roles of ascorbic acid in the cell, seems to be of peculiar interest. The concentrations expressed in those two ways often agree well. When there is a discrepancy, the concentration per cent plant water seems to give always the more ’logical‘ answer.)
