Abstract
Acetaldehyde was successfully formed by means of CO-TPR from the surface carbonaceous species, which was accumulated by the homologation of methane over Rh/SiO2 catalysts after NO preadsorption. Infrared spectroscopic study revealed that cationic rhodium atoms were formed by the function of negatively charged preadsorbed NO and its dissociation, which facilitated CO insertion into surface methyl groups by weakening Rh–C bond, followed by the formation of acetaldehyde.
