Abstract

The separation of flexible-chain polymers of various nature [poly(ethylene glycols), dextran, and poly(vinylpyrrolidone)] on macroporous and finely porous ultrafiltration membranes was studied. Experimental results were interpreted in terms of the deformation model, the concentration polarization model, and the alternative Lee–Howell model. A polarization control of ultrafiltration processes irrespective of polymer chain flexibility was proved from the differences in transport characteristics under two filtration regimes, the filtration with stirring and dead-end filtration.
