Abstract
Alkaline-earth titanates, aluminum borides, and a number of ferroalloys are prepared by high-temperature synthesis in layered systems. Both vertical and horizontal geometries of the process are used, depending on whether or not the reaction intermediates participate in subsequent reactions. It is shown that the propagation of the combustion wave in adjacent layers may give rise to redistribution of phases and low-melting impurities in the main layer.
