Abstract
The optical arrangement of a laser generating double giant pulses is described. Lasing is initiated upon a single photoelectric switching of a branched anisotropic cavity by an electrooptic shutter and using a bleachable filter. The time interval between laser pulses can be varied over a virtually unlimited range. The laser generates two giant pulses with mutually orthogonal planes of radiation polarization. The results of experimental investigations of a ruby laser of this kind based on active elements with a 60° orientation of the optical axis are presented.
