Abstract
Chloramphenicol acetyltransferase production in a soluble and active form was promoted four- to five-fold by increasing culture temperature of Escherichia coli from 37 to 42°C. Comparison of cat mRNA levels at the two temperatures did not explain differences in enzyme activity, suggesting a post-transcriptional regulation.
