Abstract
We present recent high resolution data on 4He films in vycor glass. Vycor is a unique system in that the interconnectedness of the glass and the small size of the pores leads to the presence of 3DXY universality in thin films on the vycor. This allows us effectively to look at the 3D behavior of 4He over a large range of densities by varying the coverage in the glass. Ranging in super fluid particle densities from 6×10 18 per cm3 to 1.5×10 21 per cm3, these data show the crossover from weakly interacting BEC like behavior to that of a strongly interacting bose gas. Additionally, from the lowest coverages, an effective mass can be determined. A future cell is being designed which will allow access to densities approaching 1×10 18 per cm3.
