High Temperature Aims and scope

Abstract

The method is treated of determining “static” pair potentials of interaction between neutral gas atoms and ions, recovered by the interaction energies of particles located at fixed distances from one another, using data on the activation energy of diffusion and dissolution of gas in ionic crystals. The results of investigation of the diffusion and solubility of helium in fluorides of alkaline-earth metals at distances in the range from 0.175 to 0.275 nm are used to recover the interaction potential in the He–Fsystem, U[He–F ] = (90 ± 15)exp{–(28.5 – 1.5)r} eV. A comparison is made with the experimental and theoretical data of other authors.
