Effect of Neutron Irradiation on Properties of Glassy Carbon

  • Published:
Inorganic Materials Aims and scope

Abstract

Experimental data are presented on the effect of neutron irradiation (90–750°C, ≤4 × 1022 n/cm2 , E > 0.18 MeV) on the dimensions and properties of glassy carbon. The irradiation leads to a linear shrinkage of up to 8–12%, without secondary swelling. The radiation effects are analyzed in terms of the microstructure and properties of glassy carbon.
