Abstract

A setup ensuring direct viscosity measurements without preliminary calibration is described. The velocity of a ball moving in a melt was determined from the computer analysis of a digital X-ray-TV image of the cell. The measurement error reaches 6% at a ball velocity of 3.2 cm/s and decreases to 1.5% as the velocity falls down to 0.8 cm/s.
