Holographic Interferometry Using a Double-Pulse Ruby Laser with Nonsimultaneous Flashes of Pump Lamps

Abstract

A method for extending the interval between paired laser pulses is investigated. This method is based on pumping an active medium by two groups of flash lamps with nonsimultaneous discharges, each of which excites a giant pulse. It is established that, at asymmetric pumping with respect to the cavity axis, a difference in the pulse propagation paths is achieved because of the thermooptic distortions of ruby rods, which result in the impossibility of recording holographic interferograms for a pulse separation exceeding several milliseconds. An unlimited interval between pulses is achieved when using a four-lamp laser pump chamber ensuring axially symmetric pumping.
