Water Effect on Oxygen Diffusion in n-Butanol Glass

Abstract

This paper reports on the kinetics of diffusion-controlled processes: oxidation of tert-butyl radicals by molecular oxygen, phenanthrene phosphorescence quenching by molecular oxygen, and fluorescence ignition of the anthracene–oxygen geminal pair in an n-butanol–water frozen solution. An anomalous drop of oxygen diffusivity for water contents higher than 2.5-3 v/o has been found. This effect is associated with the microheterogeneous structure of the solution.
