Abstract
Chrysanthemum is an important cut flower crop but is known to be infected with viruses and viroids. Here, we have identified and characterized two sequence variants of Chrysanthemum chlorotic mottle viroid (CCHMVd) from chrysanthemum varieties Yellow Star and Orange Daisy that showed stunting, mottling and chlorosis-like symptoms, respectively. The viroid sequences were sequenced which upon BLAST analysis showed 97–98% sequence similarity to other CCHMVd isolates reported from India and world. CCHMVd disease incidence was found to be 15% that was higher in comparison to 8–10% in South Indian states. In phylogenetic analysis, the Palampur isolate grouped with other Indian isolates while isolate YS showed different ancestral origin and grouped separately with other world isolates.
