A few years ago, our community felt the urgent need to create a home for information geometry, a natural place for publishing information-geometric articles. It was Professor Jun Zhang who took action and expressed that need to Springer, with the help of a number of key protagonists of our field. That home, our journal Information Geometry (INGE), is in existence for 3 years by now and already contributed to a great expansion and consolidation of the field.

As the first Editor-in-Chief, Professor Shinto Eguchi took the responsibility for developing the journal from scratch to its current form, starting in 2016. The Editorial Board of INGE was organized in 2017 and the first article, written by Professor Fuyuhiko Tanaka, was published online on December 1st, 2017. The first article of Professor Shun-ichi Amari and his co-authors appeared online on March 23rd, 2018. Finally, our first issue including marvelous congratulatory messages from all of our distinguished advisory board members, i.e., Professors Ole E. Barndorff-Nielsen, Sir David Cox, Bradley Efron and C. Radhakrishna Rao, was available in September 2018. Since then the journal published two issues every year so far.

In April 2021, after leading INGE for more than 3 years, Professor Shinto Eguchi stepped down, and it is my great honor to continue his work by further guiding and developing the journal as Editor-in-Chief. I would like to thank Professor Eguchi for his leadership during the crucial and challenging initial phase of the journal.
