Abstract

In recent years, precast construction technology has increasingly replaced traditional cast-in-situ methods across various sectors, aligning with industrialization and energy-efficient practices in compliance with energy conservation and environmental protection policies. However, the industry still faces challenges, including rework, which hinders productivity and adherence to schedules. This study focuses on the use of rework reduction tools in the Indian precast industry. For this, a suitable rework reduction technique is identified through a detailed literature review. The study utilizes the Project Rework Reduction Tool (PRRT). Further, two real-life case studies were selected based on predefined criteria and PRRT implemented throughout the project construction life cycle. The Project Rework Reduction Indicator (PRRI) is obtained through analysis of PRRT to address challenges in precast technology and enhance project outcomes. Based on the results obtained, a standardized sequence of precast activities along with the application point of PRRT is provided at last. The case study results highlight the effectiveness of implementing PRRT, resulting in notable time savings (from 7.3 to 9.18%) for both buildings, respectively. This work intends to contribute in the domain of rework reduction specifically on Indian precast construction.
