Fibroblastic Reticulum Cell Tumor of the Breast: A Case Report and Review of Literature

Abstract

Introduction

Fibroblastic reticulum cell tumor (FRCT) is a rare tumor arising from the antigen-presenting dendritic cells.

Method

We present a case of FRCT of breast in a 62-year-old female, who presented with a right breast lump. Computed tomography scan revealed a well-circumscribed right breast mass. There was no axillary lymph node enlargement or distant metastasis.

Result

The patient had localized disease and underwent simple mastectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. The patient is well and disease free at the end of 2 years of follow-up. Only two cases of FRCT of breast have been reported in the literature.

Conclusion

FRCT can be misdiagnosed as phyllodes tumor, anaplastic large cell lymphoma and carcinoma. There is no consensus on the role of adjuvant chemotherapy or radiotherapy in FRCT of breast due to paucity of data.
