Abstract

Care delivery concepts such as healthcare quality, safety, equity, and teamwork are crucial in the care of patients. While the importance of these concepts becomes self-evident to many clerkship students, engaging pre-clerkship students has proven challenging. We created a three-session, case-based learning (CBL) curriculum that deliberately integrated care delivery concepts and basic science content. In this format, students demonstrated increased understanding of concept relevance and faculty assessments showed improved knowledge acquisition. CBL is both feasible and acceptable to pre-clerkship students as a method to teach care delivery topics.
