Zusammenfassung

Schönheit und Ästhetik spielen seit jeher eine zentrale Rolle im zwischenmenschlichen Zusammenleben. Evolutionspsychologisch sichern sie die Zugehörigkeit zur eigenen Spezies und Vorteile bei der Partnersuche und Fortpflanzung [1]. Daher ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass sich die meisten (vor allem junge) Menschen Gedanken um ihr Aussehen machen. Bei Menschen, die unter einer Körperdysmorphen Störung leiden, nimmt diese Beschäftigung jedoch ein zwanghaftes Ausmaß an, das zum Teil viele Stunden Zeit am Tag beansprucht und die psychosoziale Funktionsfähigkeit und Lebensqualität der Betroffenen enorm einschränkt.
