Qualitative Forschung im International Business – Literaturüberblick am Beispiel der aufstrebenden Märkte im asiatisch-pazifischen Raum und interview-basiertes Fallbeispiel in Taiwan

Zusammenfassung

Der vorliegende Beitrag setzt sich am Beispiel der aufstrebenden Märkte im asiatisch-pazifischen Raum mit dem Einsatz qualitativer Methoden in der Forschung zur internationalen Unternehmenstätigkeit auseinander. Dabei wird zuerst ein Literaturüberblick empirischer Studien in den vier führenden Zeitschriften zum International Business (IB) gegeben und anschließend eine Fallstudie vorgestellt, die auf Basis interviewgestützter qualitativer Forschung in taiwanesischen Elektronikunternehmen entwickelt wurde. Die Literaturanalyse zeigt, dass die Bedeutung qualitativer Methoden in der Erforschung der asiatisch-pazifischen Wachstumsmärkte stark zunimmt. Trotz dieses Trends, sind quantitative Methoden derzeit weiterhin dominierend. Das vorliegende Forschungsprojekt soll beispielgebend sein, wie qualitative Forschung die Validität von Forschungsergebnissen verbessern kann und neues Wissen in Bezug auf die Wachstumsmärkte Asiens generieren kann.

Abstract

The paper considers the use of qualitative methods in international business research on the issue of Asian pacific emerging market by reviewing empirical studies in four leading journals and introduces a project based on interview-based qualitative research on Taiwanese electronics companies. The review shows that the research on Asian emerging market is growing. However, quantitative method dominates this steam of research. The research project demonstrates how effectively using qualitative method can enhance validity and create knowledge on Asian emerging market research in international business.
