Abstract

An adhesion promoter named AP1 containing ether bond was synthesized with phenyl tris (dimethylsiloxane) silane and bisphenol A diallyl ether as raw materials by addition reaction and then applied in an addition-cure liquid silicone rubber. The product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectrum (1H-NMR). In addition, the silicone rubber spices were prepared and then characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), universal electronic material testing machine, and video-based optical contact angle measuring instrument. The characterization results indicated that the adhesion promoter substantially improved the adhesive properties of the addition-cure liquid silicone rubber, and showed the better compatibility with liquid silicone resins. When the amount of the added adhesion promoter was 1.0 phr, the shear strength between silicone rubber and polycarbonate (PC) plate reached 1.400 MPa, which was 262% higher than that of the control group. The transmittance of the silicone rubber was less changed after adding different amounts of AP1, suggesting that it could meet the encapsulation requirements of electronic packaging adhesives. After adding AP1, the static contact angle between liquid silicone rubber and PC substrate was decreased and the wettability was enhanced on the whole. Subsequently, a series of adhesion promoters AP2- AP4 were prepared through several addition experiments and SEM observations preliminarily proved that the adhesion promoter could prominently enhance the adhesion via chemical bonds formed with the cured silicone rubber and strong adsorption with PC surface.
