Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate modified deep fascial endoscopic plantar fasciotomy with decompression of calcaneus.
Materials
This prospective study was conducted from March 2010 until March 2014, including 22 patients (6 male and 16 female) with a mean age of 43.5 years (22–65 years). Our inclusion criteria were failed conservative treatment (non-steroidal, local injection, foot insole, extracorporeal shock wave therapy) of plantar fasciitis for more than 6 months, calcaneal spur confirmed by x-ray, heel pain with local pressure on the medial calcaneal tuberosity, and patients experiencing of pain after weight bearing in the morning.
Results
American Orthopedics Foot and Ankle Society for hind foot mean score before surgery was 62.9 ± 8.2 and after 1 year was 94.2 ± 6.3 (p < .0001). Full weight bearing was achieved by mean duration 20.2 ± 4.5 days. All patients returned to full daily activity 12.7 ± 3.6 weeks.
Conclusion
Deep fascial approach for endoscopic plantar fasciotomy allows good wide field for visualization, resection of calcaneal spur, and decompression of calcaneus.
