Abstract

The cocreation of science and health care practice: twelve years Tranzo

Since 2002, Tranzo, Scientific Center for Care and Welfare at Tilburg University cooperates with health care institutions in sustainable partnerships called Academic Centers (ACs). The cooperation is based on three principles: total equality between university and professional partners, multi-level personal contacts within the organisations involved and ‘win-win’: all participating parties should benefit from the cooperation. So called Science Practitioners (SPs) have a crucial role in the ACs. They are employed by the healthcare institutions that participate in the sustainable partnership with the university and work on scientific research a few days in the week. During these days, they are present at the university and conduct research on topics relevant to both science and practice, such as: evidence based medicine, quality of life and quality of care. The four eldest ACs have been evaluated by means of a document analysis and a number of face-to-face interviews with members. The core evaluation questions were how the collaboration between academia and practice takes shape, what results have been gained from the collaboration and what bottlenecks are experienced.
