Coaching als recept voor persoonlijke professionaliteit

Samenvatting

‘De arts kan zelf tot verbetering van zijn handelen komen.’ Dit is de grondgedachte bij coaching. Individuele coaching is voor een huisarts dan ook bij uitstek geschikt om regie te nemen over zijn professionele ontwikkeling. In een samenspel met de coach werkt de huisarts aan zelfgekozen doelen en verwerft de kwaliteiten of vaardigheden die hij daarvoor nodig heeft. In deze bijdrage schets ik de theorie en praktijk van coaching. Daarbij wordt helder hoe een huisarts samen met de coach zijn professioneel handelen onderzoekt, focust op de gewenste verandering en deze kan realiseren. Ik benoem veelvoorkomende thema’s bij huisartsen en laat zien wat de opbrengst kan zijn van individuele coaching. Tot slot sta ik stil bij de factoren die coaching als begeleidingsvorm effectief maken.
