Abstract

The present study was carried out in order to adapt the Sibling Cancer Needs Instrument to Turkish. The study was carried out on healthy siblings of children with cancer, who were hospitalized in the pediatric hematology and pediatric oncology services of the Ministry of Health hospitals in Ankara. 117 adolescent between the ages of 12–18 were included in the study. In the study, the General Information Form, which was developed by the researcher with an aim to attain the demographic information of adolescent, parents, and sick sibling, along with the Sibling Cancer Needs Instrument (SCNI) were used. In the research, construct validity and content validity were examined in terms of validity and Cronbach alpha coefficient was examined in terms of reliability. The validity of the measurement instrument was ensured as a result of the content validity and construct validity. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be 0.86 for the whole test. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the Sibling Cancer Needs Instrument was a valid and reliable instrument in a 30-items and 5-sub-dimension construct. The Sibling Cancer Needs Instrument can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool in determining the needs of children.
