This book, authored by an eminent neonatologist and academician, is an excellent addition to available books for medical students. The book is written in a simple language and provides up to date information on common pediatric problems. It has 48 chapters. The annexures include WHO growth charts. There is a section on practical procedures and skills related to supportive care. Practical tips and emphasis on important points, which are highlighted in the beginning of some chapters make the format attractive and conducive to learning. Frequently asked questions which follow some of the chapters will help the student to consolidate the knowledge. Important learning points are shown in boxes, flow charts and tables which help in simplifying critical information. There is a section devoted to ‘Community Pediatrics’, including National Health Programs. Chapters on neonatal care and infectious diseases are exceptionally good. Barring a few instances, the book has been updated to current information.

The manual has been especially written with Indian readers in mind, though it will be equally useful for students in other developing countries. This book will appeal to medical students, nurses as well as family physicians.
