I am indebted to Graham John Wheeler (2020) for information on the exciting afterlife of the Oracles. Among the more charming episodes noted by Wheeler was Éliphas Lévi’s 1854 attempt to summon the soul of the neo-Pythagorean philosopher and wonder-worker Apollonius of Tyana through a ritual employing formulas drawn from the Oracles.
