Abstract

The present study aimed to characterize the chemical composition and investigate the antinociceptive effects of the hydroalcoholic extract of Passiflora cincinnata leaves (HEPCL) in different animal models of nociception. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis revealed the presence of compounds such as orientin, rutin, vitexin, quercetin, apigenin, epicatechin, catechin, and gallic acid in the chemical of the chemical composition of the extract. The oral administration of HEPCL induced significant analgesia in different nociception models, including acetic acid-induced abdominal contortions, licking response induced by formalin, capsaicin, and glutamate, hot-plate test, tail-flick test, and mechanical nociception, which suggests that the extract components might act through multiple antinociceptive mechanisms.
