Conductometric investigations of zirconyl soaps in a xylene-methanol mixture

  • Published:
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society

Abstract

Conductometric measurements of solutions of zirconyl soaps in xylene-methanol (4:1, vol/vol) mixture were carried out at 30–50°C, and the results were used to determine the degree of ionization, ionization constant, and various thermodynamic parameters for both ionization and association processes. The results show that the soaps behave as weak electrolytes in dilute solutions, and the concentrations at which aggregation commences increased with increasing temperature and decreasing chainlength of the soap molecules.
