Abstract
This paper studies sound scattering from small objects using GTD. Samples are made of steel plate covered with absorbent material. Expressions for scattered sound are derived using uniform GTD formulae for wedges covered with an impedance layer. Numerical results show that edge diffraction is closely associated with parameters such as frequency, angle of incidence, dimension, material property, etc. Measurements are in general agreement with numerical computations. It is expected that the method will eventually lead to empirical formulation for prediction of target strength and free-field measurements of reflectivity of acoustic materials.
