Abstract
Failure analysis is a branch of science which deserves more concern from researchers. Here a case study of a chain conveyor link which was broken after only one month of installation. However, adequate service conditions were low applied stress and temperature about 38 °C. The failure was studied by using visual investigation, macrostructure and microstructure, chemical composition, mechanical properties. The investigation revealed low quality of manufacturing material, inappropriate manufacturing process and inappropriate heat treatment which led to existence of non-permissible discontinuities, inappropriate microstructure and very brittle material ended with short lifetime and brittle fracture.
