Activity Measurement for the FeCl2-ZnCl2 System

Abstract

The solubilities of Fe and Zn in a Bi melt in equilibrium with a FeCl2-ZnCl2 melt were measured by the isopiestic method at 917 K. The activities of FeCl2 and ZnCl2 for the FeCl2-ZnCl2 system were calculated from the solubilities of Fe and Zn in the Bi melt using the Belton–Fruehan treatment. The activities for the FeCl2-ZnCl2 system show a negative deviation from Raoult’s law. These results are in good agreement with the previously reported data determined by the transpiration method.
