Zusammenfassung
Der Aufsatz erkundet die Entwicklungen des transformationstheoretischen Diskurses über den Postsozialismus seit 1998, wobei insbesondere theoretisch-konzeptuelle Reorientierungen und Innovationen interessieren. Nach der Identifikation wichtiger neuer oder diskursiv gestärkter Ansätze werden drei von ihnen näher vorgestellt und diskutiert: der Postkommunismusansatz, steuerungstheoretische Zugänge sowie Ansätze der Europäisierung. Zusammenfassend lässt sich tatsächlich von einer „zweiten Generation“ transformationstheoretischer Ansätze sprechen. Diese hat von universalistischen Annahmen weitgehend Abschied genommen sowie durch komplexere Theoriearchitekturen und systematische raum-zeitliche Einbettungen bzw. Kontextualisierungen an Erklärungskraft gewonnen. Zugleich wird ein intensiver Austausch mit allgemeinen Wandlungstheorien erkennbar. Abschließend wirbt der Beitrag für die Anerkennung der Möglichkeit und Notwendigkeit einer interdisziplinären und fallgruppen-übergreifenden Theorie der Gesellschaftstransformation. Diese wirft aber noch vielfältige metatheoretische Probleme auf.
Abstract
The article explores the theoretical debates on postcommunist transformations since 1998 with a focus on substantial reorientations and innovations. After identifying important novel or discursively strengthened approaches, three of them are presented and critically discussed in more detail: the post-communism approach, the steering or governance approach, and the Europeanization approach. The examination leads to the result that, indeed, a “second generation” has emerged. It has largely overcome universalistic assumptions and gained explanatory power by more complex theoretical architectures as well as systematic time-space-embeddings or contextualizations. The new generation also demonstrates an intensive exchange with the field of general theories of social change. A final consideration makes the case for interdisciplinary and general theories of societal transformations as a necessary step in the advancement of the theoretical debate.
Résumé
Cet article explore l’évolution du discours théorique sur le post-socialisme depuis 1998 avec un intérêt tout particulier pour les réorientations théoriques et conceptuelles et les innovations. Après avoir identifié plusieurs nouvelles approches importantes ou renforcées discursivement, nous présentons et discutons trois d’entre elles plus en détail: l’approche post-communiste, les perspectives inspirées par la théorie de la régulation ainsi que les approches de l’européanisation. En résumé, on peut effectivement parler d’une »deuxième génération« d’approches théoriques de la transition. Celle-ci a largement abandonné les hypothèses universalistes et gagné en pouvoir explicatif grâce à des architectures théoriques plus complexes et une contextualisation spatio-temporelle systématique. Parallèlement, on observe un échange intense avec les théories générales de la transformation. En conclusion, cet article se prononce en faveur de la reconnaissance du potentiel et de la nécessité d’une théorie de la transformation sociale interdisciplinaire et polyvalente. Une telle théorie soulève cependant encore une multiplicité de problèmes métathéoriques.
