Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
Work-related stress has increased in recent years and is associated with psychological symptoms and disorders. Accordingly, work-related cognitive–behavioral group therapy is indicated. Preliminary studies support the effectiveness of work-related cognitive–behavioral therapy approaches. The present study was intended to examine the acceptance and feasibility of a 10-week work-related group therapy in a pilot study aimed at improving work ability, psychopathology, and psychosocial health.
Materials and methods
In all, 17 patients with affective disorders participated in the group therapy. All patients completed an evaluation of each session and attended in a semistructured interview after the program. Four therapists completed an evaluation of each session.
Results
The intervention was highly accepted and feasible by both patients and practitioners. The subjective satisfaction of the patients was high, especially the prospects and relapse prevention were rated very well. However, both the patients and the therapists expressed interest in more therapy sessions for the intervention. In addition, six therapeutic factors could be determined which contributed to an improvement of symptoms and work ability. These were in particular the change of perspective, the improvement of self-esteem, and the integration into a group.
Conclusion
Findings support a high acceptance and very good feasibility of the work-related group therapy “Stay healthy at work” by patients and therapists. Future studies will have to use a control group design with a large sample size to verify effectiveness and to what extent an increase in the number of sessions is associated with an increased satisfaction and effectiveness.
