This is the first issue of Volume 6 of Metacognition and Learning. Since the onset of the journal in 2006, the number of submissions has gradually increased to a stable input flow to the journal, the number of published papers has slightly risen due to high quality of submissions, and the journal is well read. Especially since 2007, the number of article downloads has shown a spectacular growth every year. This means that Metacognition and Learning has found its niche as a specialized educational journal.

At the end of this year, I will step down as editor of the journal, and I am pleased to announce that Roger Azevedo is willing to take up the editor position as per January 2012. Therefore, 2011 is a transition period. Bernadette van Hout-Wolters stepped back as associate editor and we thank her for the work she has done. As upcoming editor, Roger will replace her as associate editor in 2011. Peter Afflerbach agreed to stay on board for another year. With this new editorial team, we will continue to publish a high quality selection of papers in 2011, thanks to the anonymous contributions of our reviewers.
