Notes

  1. Two recent papers use board meeting minutes from a sample of Israeli firms in which the government owns a substantial equity stake to shed light on the question what boards actually do and how they make decisions (Schwartz-Ziv and Weisbach 2013; Schwartz-Ziv 2017).

  2. Milken pleaded guilty to six felony charges and was sentenced to 10 years in jail, which was later reduced to 22 months, paid $600 million in fines and penalties, and was banned for life from the securities industry. Joseph was not charged with any crimes, but was banned from the securities industry for two years for failing to ensure that Milken’s junk bond department complied with the securities laws.
