Zusammenfassung
Übermäßiger Alkoholkonsum führt zu Schädigungen in verschiedenen Organsystemen, die von großer gesundheitsökonomischer Relevanz sind. Häufig handelt es sich um pathogenetische Kaskaden, bei denen Läsionen der Darmmukosa, Leberschädigungen und immunologische Prozesse von zentraler Bedeutung sind. Eine wichtige Rolle spielen auch synergistische pathogene Effekte des Rauchens sowie zusätzliche Einflüsse von ungünstigem Gesundheitsverhalten. Die vermuteten positiven Effekte des Alkoholkonsums sind geringer als oft angenommen und dürfen nicht zur Rechtfertigung des Alkoholkonsums benutzt werden. Bei rechtzeitiger Erkennung eines Alkoholmissbrauchs1 sind die Folgeschäden oft noch reversibel. Deshalb ist es wichtig, bei unklaren gesundheitlichen Beschwerden an Alkohol als möglichen ätiologischen Faktor zu denken und mithilfe von Screeninginstrumenten und einer motivierenden Gesprächsführung gezielt dieser Frage nachzugehen. Kurzinterventionen sind bei riskantem Alkoholkonsum und Alkoholmissbrauch wirksam. Der Beitrag befasst sich schwerpunktmäßig mit körperlichen Alkoholfolgeerkrankungen.
