Estimation of Temporal Changes of Volumetric Soil Water Content from Ground-Penetrating Radar Reflections

Abstract.

Time series of ground-penetrating rader traces are used to monitor temporal changes of soil water content down to about 1.5 m. The results are compared with high-resolution time series of time-domain reflectometry measurements at a few locations in the soil profile. We find a reasonable agreement between the two approaches and discuss the differences in terms of their respective limitations.
