Irradiation Temperature Dependence of the Efficiency of Radiation-Thermal Synthesis of Lithium Ferrite

Abstract

Investigations are performed of the synthesis of lithium pentaferrite in the course of isochronous ferritizing annealing of a mixture of lithium carbonate and iron oxide of stoichiometric composition under irradiation by electrons. Within the temperature range 650–950 °C, an increase in the rate of synthesis is observed compared to that under thermal ferritizing annealing. The content of residual inclusions of orthoferrite, which is an intermediate phase, is found to be lower in the specimens synthesized by the radiation-thermal procedure. A model describing the radiation-enhanced process of synthesis is proposed.
