Russian Chemical Bulletin Aims and scope

Abstract

The reaction of zinc(II) nitrate with 5-iodoisophthalic acid (5-I-IPAH) in N,N-dimethylformamide afforded the layered coordination polymer {Zn(5-I-IPA)}n(1). The structure of 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The phase purity of 1 was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction. The molecular electrostatic potentials of iodine atoms, which characterize their ability to form a halogen bond, were determined by quantum chemical calculations.

Vladimir Petrovich Fedin, born in 1954, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chief Researcher at the Nikolaev Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk), Head of the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the Novosibirsk State University, Candidate for Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the elections of 2022. V. P. Fedin is a prominent specialist in the field of coordination and supramolecular chemistry, the author and co-author of more than 600 scientific publications. His research demonstrated that the targeted construction of highly ordered supramolecular systems with specified structures and functional properties can be performed using nanosized building blocks (chalcogenide clusters, polyoxometalates, macrocyclic cavitands) capable of highly specific controlled intermolecular interactions; he developed a methodology for the synthesis of isoreticular nanoporous metal-organic frameworks, which are new adsorbents for the storage and fine purification of gases, catalysts for a wide range of reactions, sensors, and proton-conducting materials; designed unique homochiral porous coordination polymers, which are used for the separation of practically important compounds. He prepared and delivers a course of lectures on inorganic chemistry at the Novosibirsk State University. V. P. Fedin is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Structural Chemistry, an editorial board member of the Russian Chemical Bulletin, Chemistry for Sustainable Development, Russian Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of Cluster Science, and Crystals; the Chairman of the Dissertation Council for Doctoral and Ph. D. Theses at the NIIC SB RAS.
