Abstract

In this work, a new nano-sized complex of molybdenum(VI) with the Schiff base ligand, [MoO2(C11H13NO3).(CH3OH)](1); C11H13NO3 = 2-methoxy-6-[(2-oxidopropyl)iminom-ethyl] phenolate, has been synthesized by ultrasonic irradiation and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), IR and NMR spectroscopy. The crystallinity of nano-plate compound 1 was studied by XRD and compared with XRD simulation of the single crystal data. These nano-structures of compound 1 were obtained by sonochemical process. The molybdenum(VI) trioxide nano-particles were obtained by direct calcination of compound 1 as nano-structure at 673 K. The obtained molybdenum(VI) trioxides were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.
