  1. The French philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari presented their seminal sophisticated reflections on structures of life, politics, society, ontology etc. in two books, published as L’anti-Oedipe (1972) and Mille plateaux (1980). Both have been translated into English as Anti-Oedipus (1977) and A Thousand Plateaus (1987) and have been reprinted many times.

  2. David Émile Durkheim (1858–1917) was a French sociologist and is often referred to as the discipline’s father.

  3. John Dewey (1859–1952) was an American educator and philosopher especially involved in progressive education.

  4. Brazilian pedagogue Paulo Freire (1921–1997) was especially concerned with education of oppressed and poor people.
