Abstract
Sorption of small amounts of Th with hydroxides of bi-, tri-, and tetravalent metals in the coprecipitation mode, as well as with cryogranulated hydroxides, was studied as dependent on pH. The sorption activity of the metal hydroxides with respect to Th tends to decrease with increasing pH of the onset of precipitation of the hydroxides, that is, with the acid properties of the collectors weakening as Sn (1.1) > Ti (1.1) > Zr (0.8) > Fe (2.0) > Ga (2.8) > In (3.4) > Al (4.0) > Cr (5.0) > Be (6.0) (figures in parentheses are pH values at which the hydroxides start to precipitate). Sorption of Th with the metal hydroxides is underlain by acid-base interaction between the micro- and macrocomponent, yielding heterohydroxo complexes.
