Abstract

This paper demonstrates the novel design of a photonic D-Type flip flop based on silicon micro-ring resonator as its core component. The design incorporates the carrier-injection forward-biased PIN waveguide resonance response for its logical operation. This work also provides the working principle of the designed D flip-flop. This work proceeds with the demonstration and analysis of the operation with the D input information injected at 1 Gbps, and the clocking rate of 5 GHz. The performance of the proposed D flip-flop is verified by clear output timing as well as eye diagrams.
