Abstract
Defined by its lack of differentiation and uniformity, everyday life has been understood as the opposite of the extraordinary. In a series of walks through Buenos Aires, Frankfurt and Montevideo, Los lugares, the novel by the Argentine writer Elvio Gandolfo, explores the power of everyday spaces to create unforgettable experiences that question this supposed triviality. Following the work of Georges Perec, the novel is written by using rules to explore the creative potential of walking and to reorient the gaze on everything that goes unnoticed in daily life. Thus, this article analyses the ways in which Gandolfo’s novel deconstructs this traditional sense of everyday through the spatial practice, in order to vindicate the mystery and exceptionality of the everyday experience. By examining the monotony of the daily rhythm, a spacetime analysis will be applied to understand the sensations and moods of the everyday landscapes. Moreover, from the point of view of the narrative, the article discusses how the free association of ideas generates a textual wandering in accordance with the rhythm of the walk.

Además de su labor como traductor y periodista cultural, Elvio Gandolfo (San Rafael, 1947) se ha consolidado como un escritor central dentro de la narrativa rioplatense, especialmente gracias a sus relatos cercanos al género fantástico—Dos mujeres (1992), Cada vez más cerca (2013)—, pese a que hasta el momento no ha tenido la atención suficiente por parte de la crítica académica. Entre sus publicaciones destacan los libros de cuentos La reina de las nieves (1982), Caminando alrededor (1986), Ferrocarriles argentinos (1994) y The Book of Writers (2010), las novelas Boomerang (1993) y Mi mundo privado (2016), el libro de poesía El año de Stevenson (2011), y los ensayos Parece mentira (1993) y La mujer de mi vida (2015).
Ignacio Echevarría interpreta esta escena en relación con una búsqueda espiritual que guía toda la novela de Levrero: “El enigma que el animal plantea al narrador parece sugerir la inminencia de una revelación, la manifestación de algo cuyo sentido termina siempre por escapársele […] La señal del Espíritu sería finalmente, entonces, esa paloma muerta” (2008, 100–102). Es de destacar que a Elvio Gandolfo y Mario Levrero los unió una estrecha amistad y colaboración literaria (Cfr. Mario Levrero. Un silencio menos, una serie de entrevistas compilada por Elvio Gandolfo y Correspondencia, editado por Osvaldo Aguirre, que reúne las cartas de Levrero con Francisco Gandolfo, padre de Elvio).

En “Notas sobre lo que busco”, Perec señala que a lo largo de toda su obra siempre se ha planteado la misma pregunta, pero desde distintos puntos de vista. Todos sus libros, sostiene, recurren “a tal o cual constreñimiento o estructura ‘oulipiana’, al menos a título simbólico, y sin que dicha estructura o constreñimiento me constriña en algo” (Perec, 1985, 17).
Oulipo (“Ouvroir de Littérature Potentielle”) fue un grupo fundado por Raymond Queneau y François de Lionnais en 1960, que se propuso explorar las potencialidades de la literatura a través de la utilización de ciertas formas y estructuras, muchas de ellas cercanas a las matemáticas. Además de Georges Perec, entre sus miembros destacan Jacques Roubaud, Marcel Duchamp, Harry Mathews e Italo Calvino.
