Nitriding of Structural Steels for Tribotechnical Destination and Complex Evaluation of the Quality of Treatment

  • Published:
Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

We carried out structural and tribological investigations of steels and alloys after different modes of their nitriding. On the basis of the results of tribological tests and metal-physics investigations, we estimated the efficiency of each applied procedure of treatment and determined the characteristics of the structural state of nitrided layer, promoting the improvement of the wear resistance of steels under the conditions of contact deformation. We also develop a complex physicomechanical criterion aimed at the evaluation of the efficiency of nitriding of various parts of friction units.
