Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

The influence of irradiation by manganese ions with energy 45 keV and dose 5 × 1016 ion/cm2 and dose build-up rate 10 – 50 μA/cm2 on the composition of the surface layers and morphology of the surface and mechanical properties of carbon steel St3sp is investigated. Achange in the micro-hardness and fatigue resistance as a function of the dose build-up rate and smoothing of the surface under the effect of ion bombardment are established.
